Community Service, one of the four avenues of service within Rotary, is the opportunity Rotary clubs have to implement club service projects activities that improve life in the local community. This is perhaps the major arm of Rotary Club of Hout Bay's activities.

Hout Bay is a microcosm of community life in South Africa, combining all racial groups and the many cultures that go to make up "the Rainbow Nation". The population makeup of the village, almost a town, which nestles in the mountains surrounding the Cape Peninsula, covers a wide range of vocational sectors, from fishing to financial services, from transport to retailing. Tourism and construction even form part of its multi-cultured social structure. Hout Bay is the gateway to some of the most beautiful scenic drives in the world.

Events fundraising is an important part of Rotary life. In the case of Rotary Hout Bay, these events include an international cycle race through the town which is part of a circuit in the Cape Town area usually involving some 30,000 cyclists from all over South Africa, vintage car rally events or particiapation as stewards in marathon races. In summary, the community services section of Hout Bay Rotary Club involves itself in the welfare of its own community and that of nearby areas with targeted projects.
