Well done, Marga
In the estimation of most of those present at last week's weekly meeting,it appears that Councillor Marga Haywood has done a good job for the established community of Hout Bay in attending Council meetings with regular and responsible regularity and fighting hard to halt the momentum, mainly brought about the DA Mayor of Cape Town Don Plato, of the quite unnacceptable future plan for the development of Imizamo Yethu.
Plan 5 as more latterly altered by the artists and backers of the non-approved version is now in the WPB, and, hopefully, a more acceptable drawing 6, as proposed by Tommy Brummer, is going forward. Well done, we can all say, Marga. That kind of thing in IY and that awful double lane highway and no High School is just not explainable.
To help Marga with her understanding of the Mayor's strange position as adopted by him, it must be explained that at a recent meeting of the Press Club, attended by your editor at the Royal Yacht Club, Mayor Plato did explain his newly vaunted plan for all which were as a result of visits to China and the Far East on the same problem
The mayor told the media that he believes the answer, as proposed and practicesd elsewhere in Asia, is to slam up high-rise minimal size apartment blocks at high speed as practised by the Russians post war. As pointed out by the press to Plato at the time at the RYC, look at what happened to Britain post war -where hundreds of ugly blocks, now tenements, are being pulled down and condemned? He admitted he only had short term answers.
Marga, does this help? Plato genuinely believes that 20,000 persons must be accomodated in IY because you cannot politically move move people (especially the DA), so going upwards is the only way. Also good luck with your court order to force the DA to do what they really want to do.

Presidents Corner
Fellow Rotarians,
A very powerful presentation by our Ward Councillor Marga Haywood. She deserves praise for having prevented a very undesirable development in IY. However, it was elements in her party, first and foremost, the Mayor, who wanted to push through clandestinely this development in the full city council. We therefore must watch also the DA’s agenda as well. For that matter it would be a good idea, if a couple of Rotarians, who can afford it, go to the Premier’s breakfast on Feb 13th, at Suikerbossie’s Restaurant and ask a couple of pertinent questions.
We have sponsored two Rotary Shelterboxes for the

M A message from Don at Nonceba and theAshley Award scheme members to all of us at Rotary Hout Bay
Dear Rotarians, partners and guests,
What a truly wonderful response to our little appeal for the Albertina’s of this World. The little waifs who are attacked so cruelly and suffer indescribable physical and mental pain as a result of RAPE and ABUSE.
When we prepared the now identified, “Albertina boxes” our expectation was there would be support; but never did we think that the spontaneous generosity of the Rotarians of
The anonymous donations so perfectly fitted into the genre of Rotary International and its
We at the Nonceba Child Counselling Centre, the Ashley Kaimowitz Memorial Fund and the Ashley Award Scheme, thank you all for the amazing donation of R 835-55 for the Albertina boxes (Comfort boxes). We salute you all and sincerely hope that if you have not visited the Centre we will be able to welcome you soon.
On behalf of the little Albertina’s whose tearful and frightened stares at us in relief when they open their comfort box; and where so often the child clutches at the little knitted doll and hugs it close to their face…. Thank you.
With love from all at Nonceba.
