Past Rotarian president Roy Graham (L) welcomes new president, Joe Schwach
Hout Bay Rotary Club has launched a recruitment drive aimed at boosting membership among local people who are interested in networking and helping with humanitarian projects in the community.
Incoming president Joe Schwach this week called on all Rotarians to promote the organization and its aims and achievements at a time of year when Hout Bay Rotary numbers traditionally thin out as many members – “swallows” – flee the South African winter for the warmer European summer.
In his inauguration address, Joe Schwach said he hoped potential members would be attracted to Rotary meetings by a series of interesting addresses over the next few weeks, including the topic of “ethics in business governance and politics” which will be presented by Coeni van Beek, the global ethics co-coordinator for PricewaterhouseCoopers.
“We want encourage proactive residents of Hout Bay, Llandudno and Camps Bay, female and male, to join the Club,” new president Joe Schwach said.
“This will be achieved with interesting presentations by outside speakers, challenging service projects which integrate the community, fund-raisers to fill Rotary’s sponsorship kitty and worldwide interaction with our international club structure.”
Hout Bay Rotary Club is a non-profit, charitable organization that has completed many important local achievements. One high-profile project currently under way is an extension of the Imizamo Yethu Clinic on Main Rd under the banner of the club’s Operation Medical Hope. Funds for this R500,000 building were also raised by a Japanese rotary club and an Australian club which organized a sponsored climb of Mt Kilimanjaro. One of the climbers was an IY resident.
