Sunday the 11th March 2007 saw the world's largest timed cycle tour of 40 000 riders come through the suburb of Hout Bay.The event is organised by the Rotary Club of Claremont and is one of the largest fundraisers for charitable organisations in Cape Town not to mention the income that is generated for the City
As usual the Rotary Club of Hout Bay was on standby and led by the inimitable Field Marshal Don Peters marshalled the stretch of the route from Chapmans Peak Drive through to the Twelve Apostles hotel
The Hout Bay stretch is very popular with the cyclists because it includes the Chapmans Peak Drive as well as the dreaded Suikerbossie, the last major hill after about 80kms of the 105km course
Rotary helped obtained sponsorships for 13 disadvantaged riders from the Hout Bay High School, with bikes, cycling kits and race entries. 12 out of the 13 youths completed with only 2 weeks of training
Rotary Club of Hout Bay would like to thank the residents of Hout Bay and LLandudno for their patience and the warm welcome they gave to the cyclists!
